As the inaugural exhibition at Subhashok the Arts Centre Art Lab (S.A.C. Art Lab) in Chiang Mai, we are excited to present Israkran Yingyong’s solo exhibition. In this exhibition, Yingyong, also known as “Lookcomb”, continues his international project “Combination”, which seeks to explore the relationship between people and everyday objects such as T-shirts.

Lookcomb graduated B.F.A.(Painting) from Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University and won a Silver Medal Award, the 17th Exhibition of Contemporary Art by Young Artist on The occasion of Silpa Bhirasi Day, Bangkok, Thailand. Having shown in local and international stages, Lookcomb has several solo shows and participate in numerous group exhibitions. Above all, he was selected to join HIVE Asian Residency Asian Report @Art Studio in South Korea in 2014; and New Space Art Foundation in Vietnam in 2016. During the residency program, he took numerous secondhand T-shirts and weaved them as a collage, then presented it to installation art. Besides, through the context of arts, he brought the secondhand T-shirt back to life and became a new T-shirt by using the symbol “0”.

The continuation of ‘Combination’ comes from his interest in the secondhand cloth and its contexts which most secondhand T-shirts are intentionally sent from developed countries for under developed countries, but got into the secondhand market instead. Often, T-shirts are sent into the secondhand cycle not because they are too old to be used, but because they are not fascinating enough to be given values. Lookcomb reinterprets these T-shirts in order to re-engage viewers with discarded objects and to create new identities to both wearers and the T-shirts themselves. He has continued working on this topic and using T-shirts as the material for making art up until now. In particular, the exhibition ‘Combination 7: The Missing Size’, takes place at S.A.C. Art Lab which located in the city of Chiang Mai. Lookcomb immerses himself with the city of Chiang Mai where the secondhand T-shirts have been tremendously sent to and full of various types of people, i.e. local residents as hosts and tourists as guests. Therefore, Lookcomb applies the notion of diversity and second hand T-shirts in Chiang Mai to the idea of ‘The Missing Size’.

Starting from 11 November 2017, Lookcomb will have a Performance in the exhibition space and audiences are welcome to participate in this activity. During the exhibition period, audiences are invited to join the workshop and Performance by bringing their own T-shirts for making the new T-shirts; for example, sewing, washing and drying T-shirts. Besides, the participants will receive a special gift from the artist.

The exhibition ‘Combination 7: The Missing Size’ will start from 11 November-25 December 2017. The opening reception will be held on 25th November 2017 from 6:00 PM, which will include the inauguration ceremony of the S.A.C. Art Lab and introduction to S.AC. Artist Residency Program artists.

Art Lab ในฐานะส่วนหนึ่งของ หอศิลป์ศุภโชค ดิ อาร์ต เซนเตอร์ มีความยินดีอย่างยิ่ง ที่ขอเรียนเชิญท่านเข้าชมนิทรรศการ Combination 7: The Missing Size โดยศิลปิน อิสรากาญจน์ ยิ่งยง (Israkran Yingyong) หรือเรียกกันในวงการว่า “ลูกโคม” โดยนิทรรศการในครั้งนี้ถือเป็นการเปิดตัว S.A.C. Art Lab พื้นที่ศิลปะใหม่ในตัวเมืองเชียงใหม่ที่จะมีขึ้นในเดือนพฤศจิกายนนี้ กล่าวถึง โครงการเสื้อยืด “Combination” ที่ผ่านมาของลูกโคม ซึ่งได้ถูกเผยแพร่ออกไปทั้งในและต่างประเทศ หลายคนอาจเคยเห็นผลงานของเขาถูกจำหน่ายในฐานะเสื้อมือสองที่ถูกนำมาตัด ปะ เย็บ จนกลายเป็นเสื้อยืดตัวใหม่แบบไม่ซ้ำกันแม้แต่ตัวเดียว เสื้อยืดมือสองเหล่านี้ส่วนใหญ่ไม่ได้เก่าเกินกว่าจะทิ้ง เพียงแต่มันไม่น่าสนใจพอที่จะถูกนำมาทำให้มีคุณค่า หรือมูลค่า กระบวนการทำงานศิลปะของโคมจึงเกี่ยวข้องกับการออกแบบที่สัมพันธ์กับความรู้สึกนึกคิดของผู้คนอย่างน่าสนใจ

อิสรากาญจน์ ยิ่งยง (Israkran Yingyong) หรือเรียกกันในวงการว่า “ลูกโคม” จบการศึกษาจากคณะวิจิตรศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ในปี 2001 เคยได้รับรางวัลเหรียญเงินจากการแสดงศิลปกรรมร่วมสมัยของศิลปินรุ่นเยาว์ครั้งที่ 17ในปี 2000 ที่ผ่านมาโคมมีประสบการณ์ในการเดินทางเพื่อสร้างสรรค์ผลงาน โดยมีนิทรรศการเดี่ยวทั้งในและต่างประเทศ โดยเฉพาะการได้รับเชิญจาก HIVE Asian Residency Asian Report @Art Studio ณ เมืองช็องจู (Cheongju) ประเทศเกาหลีใต้ ในปี 2014 และ New Space Art Foundation เมืองเว้ ประเทศเวียดนาม ในปี 2016 ในฐานะศิลปินในพำนัก โคมสร้างสรรค์ผลงานด้วยเสื้อยืดมือสองจำนวนมากนำมาตัดเย็บ ปะติด (collage) นำเสนอเป็นผลงานจัดวาง (installation art) รวมถึงการนำเสื้อเหลือใช้เหล่านี้ผสมผสานกันจนกลายเป็นเสื้อใหม่ผ่านสัญลักษณ์เลข “0” ฟื้นชีวิตให้เสื้อยืดเหล่านี้กลับมาที่จุดเริ่มต้นเพื่อเริ่มต้นชีวิตใหม่ในบริบทของศิลปะแบบไม่สูญเปล่า กระทั่งปัจจุบันโคมคือศิลปินนักจัดการเสื้อยืดจากวัฏจักรเครื่องนุ่มห่มมือสองที่ถูกบริจาคมาจากประเทศโลกที่หนึ่ง เขามีความสนใจเป็นพิเศษเกี่ยวกับเสื้อผ้าจำนวนมากที่ถูกส่งเข้าสู่วงจรตลาดนัดเสื้อผ้าราคาถูกที่เรารู้จักกันดี แต่มีจำนวนไม่น้อยที่ต้องเดินมาสุดทางของการใช้งานเพราะไม่มีใครต้องการมันอีกต่อไป

แนวเรื่อง The Missing Size เป็นความต้องการค้นหาบุคลิกภาพของเชียงใหม่ เมืองที่มีความหลากหลายโดยเฉพาะผู้คนท้องถิ่นในฐานะเจ้าบ้านและนักท่องเที่ยวจำนวนมากในฐานะผู้มาเยือน เชียงใหม่ยังเป็นอีกพื้นที่ที่มีการนำเข้าเสื้อยืดมือสองจำนวนมากที่ส่งมาจากประเทศที่เจริญแล้ว เสื้อเหล่านี้คือตัวแทนของสิ่งหลงเหลือจากสังคมบริโภค และเป็นสิ่งสะท้อนความหลากหลายทางด้านวัฒนธรรม วิถีชีวิต ทั้งยังเป็นสิ่งที่แบ่งแยกแตกต่างไปตามขนาดรูปร่างของผู้คน ลักษณะของเสื้อที่แตกต่างนี้อุปมาถึงระดับและตำแหน่งแห่งที่ของคนที่แตกต่างกันแต่ต้องอาศัยอยู่ร่วมกัน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นชาวบ้าน นักศึกษามหาวิทยาลัย กลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ เจ้าของกิจการและนักธุรกิจจากกรุงเทพฯ หรือนักท่องเที่ยวจากต่างชาติ ฯลฯ ทุกคนล้วนอยู่ร่วมกันในพื้นที่ด้วยจุดประสงค์และวิถีที่แตกต่าง ลูกโคมได้นำพวกเขาเข้ามามีส่วนร่วมผ่านเสื้อผ้าที่ไม่ใช้แล้ว หรือเสื้อผ้าที่ได้มาจากการแลกเปลี่ยน เพื่อนำมาสร้างสรรค์ให้เป็นผลงานศิลปะ รวมถึงสร้างสรรค์กิจกรรมที่อยู่ในชีวิตประจำวันปกติ เช่นการเย็บ ซัก และตากผ้าที่ทุกคนสามารถมีส่วนร่วมในกระบวนการทางศิลปะและสร้างการสื่อสารแลกเปลี่ยนระหว่างกันได้อย่างง่ายดาย

นิทรรศการ: Combination 7: The Missing Size จะเปิดให้เข้าชมตั้งแต่วันที่ 11 พฤศจิกายน – 25 ธันวาคม 2017 ผู้ชมสามารถเข้าร่วมเวิร์คช็อป (Workshop) กึ่งแสดงสด (Performance) ได้ตั้งแต่วันที่ 11 พฤศจิกายน -25 พฤศจิกายน 2017 โดยนำเสื้อยืดที่ไม่ใช้แล้วไม่จำกัดจำนวน เพื่อร่วมกิจกรรมสร้างสรรค์เสื้อตัวใหม่ และรับผลงานที่ละลึกจากศิลปิน และพิธีเปิดอย่างเป็นทางการจะมีขึ้นในวันที่ 25 พฤศจิกายน 2017 เวลา 18:00 น.
ผู้ชมจะได้ร่วมพบปะพูดคุยกับศิลปินจากนานาชาติที่ได้รับเลือกให้มาพำนักในโครงการ S.A.C. Residency Program ครั้งที่ 1 รวมถึงร่วมพบปะทีมงาน และผู้บริหารจาก Subhashok The Arts Centre ในวันเดียวกันนี้
