Rooftop Gallery # A Light in Time # Exhibition

Rooftop Gallery by Farmani Group is pleased to present a memorial exhibition for Petite Fleur Lukae PaschaL (Theresa Ann Moriarty 1986-2010).“A Light in Time” curated by Yvonne Liang will run from 6 pm March 7th – 31st 2015 at Rooftop Gallery by Farmani Group with an opening reception on Saturday March 7th from 6.00 pm – 10.00 pm and closing event on March 31st from 6.00 pm – 10.00pm.

Theresa Ann Moriarty was born in Bangkok to a Thai mother and an American father. As a Eurasian beauty she naturally gravitated toward the entertainment industry. She was a young star in Thai Lakorn, ‘Sairung, and in 2004 she was a runner up in the Miss Thailand World competition.

Her beauty; however, was merely an accessory to her inner passion. From a very young age, she took inspiration from her Christian faith struggling with her dark side; both found expression through her music, poetry, and art. In high school in Bangkok She displayed a budding interest and participation in singing, song writing, and painting. It was her trip to India in 2008 that inspired her to concentrate on photography, which became the most compelling amongst her many passions. She majored in photography at NYC’s Parson’s New School. Her approach, always unique and experimental, often used images of her face and body as her template.

Her works are adorned with childlike curiosity, teenage experimentation, feminine charm intertwined with bipolar tendencies and paranoid schizophrenic mentality. Each photo, poem, and song accentuates the artist unique point of view as well as struggles as an artist nearing the end of her life. Her imagination and creativity in her works inspired and confused all those viewing.

Theresa’s sister, Gabriela Moriarty explains her inspiration for organizing this memorial exhibition, “I grew spiritually closer to my sister after her death. Through what she left us I noticed how similar my own life and passions were to hers. The difference, however, was she was uninhibited but I was hiding. I felt afraid to follow my passion for life for fear of the ostracism that she suffered. It wasn’t until I started going through her journals, her photos, her poetry, and her artwork that I began to see her as my genie hidden in the lamp. I alone, possessing all her works, needed to free this genie for her friends; her loved ones, and others. So in light of her courage, I wanted to create a space where other people could also delight in what she left behind for us.”

“As death was not taboo topic for Theresa, let it not discolor this exhibition in her memory. Theresa was too edgy and vibrant to be stopped by death. This exhibition is also a second chance for me to show more boldness and for her to share her genius a second time for us who remain. I also hope each of us at the exhibition might take at least one flower from the large bouquet that PFLP left to us,” says Gabriela.

Photographs and paintings as well as her journals will be on display for viewers to dive into her psyche. Her recorded voice heard and her spirit alive in the room.

All artwork will be for sale for those to want to take part of her spirit. A compilation of her work will also be for sale.

Entry is free.

Proceeds from the show will be given as the Petite Fleur Lukae Paschal Grant to two graduating seniors from International Community School Bangkok applying to any art or creative writing universities who is participating in the exhibition.
