Cho Why – Bye Bye Chinatown
June 9, 2017 @ 6:30 pmJune 23, 2017 @ 6:30 pm UTC+7
No, we are not announcing our departure. Or perhaps yes, since we are witnessing how quickly the development delirium in this neighbourhood is reaching a point of no return.
Nowadays #Chinatown is certainly a district under construction or should we say under siege? You name it. What is undoubtedly real is the fact that as months go by, more and more ‘heritage’ buildings like ours have been transformed into…rubble.
With this collaborative photo installation we aim to raise awareness of the unique urbanscape we are surrounded by, the priceless value of this architectural heritage still standing today in Chinatown. Not to mention the human factor, the long time history of the neighbourhood community, its people and their stories…Tomorrow will be another day.
– About ‘Bye bye Chinatown’ –
‘Bye bye Chinatown’ is conceived as a collaborative activity where both professional and amateur photographers as well as other creative urban practitioners will help raising awareness of the Chinatown’s unique cultural heritage at risk.
The programme will consist of a one-week photo marathon in collaboration with bangkokvanguards, a collaborative photo installation, an online photo book as well as some side programmes to be announced.
The photo installation and side activities will be taking place at Cho Whyearly next year throughout June / July.
