DESCRIPTION:‘Summer Grasses’ by Bàng Nhất Linh\nOpening: 6.00PM\, Sat 20 Oct 2018\nShowcase: 20 Oct – 05 Nov 2018\nManzi Art Space\, 14 Phan Huy Ich\nFree Entry\nManzi Art Space\, MotPlus và Nguyen Art Foundation is pleased to present ‘Summer Grass’ – a solo show by Bàng Nhất Linh\, one of the most talented and active artists of Hanoi. \n“Summer grasses\,\nAll that remains\nOf soldiers’ dreams” – Basho \nThis is the 6th project and 5th solo show by Linh. After the show in Hanoi\, the work will be exhibited in Saigon\, as a part of a dual exhibition – a collaboration of Bang Nhat Linh and Wu Chi-Tsung – a Taiwanese artist\, hosted by MotPlus. * \n‘Summer grasses’ is Linh’s most recent work – an installation artwork which revisits and references his previous unexhibited work – ‘Hero’. ‘Hero’ created out from 2010 to 2012 was inspired by the famous naval Battle of Bach Dang – one of the greatest victories in Vietnamese war history. The artwork focuses on a large 8.5m model which was created to be just as a fragment from a Chinese battleship would appear\, hanging suspended on wooden stakes\, to evoke an illusion for the viewer of standing in the river bed. However\, the project remained created yet unexhibited for many reasons and has existed in creation and concept for the artist alone. \n  \nThe installation illuminates the famous poem entitled ‘Nam Quốc Sơn Hà’ (The Country in the South)* written in light and shadow\, whilst we observe a forsaken project\, through the objects shown and seen\, though seemingly common and natural at first glance they repose within a situational irony…stories within stories… all set in idyllic surroundings filled and juxtaposed with a rhythmic yet melancholy atmosphere – as in their namesake Haiku poem by Basho. \n  \n*‘Nam Quốc Sơn Hà’ – ‘The Country in the South’ (Chinese characters: 南國山河): This anonymous poem is one of the best known literature pieces in Vietnamese history. Written in a form of classical Chinese poetry called seven-character-quatrain (a form of regulated verse with four lines of seven characters each)\, it is known as ‘The Very First Declaration of Vietnam’s Independence’. Legend describes that the poem was read aloud to divinities before and during battles to boost troops morale when Vietnam fought against the invasion from the North as long ago as the 10th Century AD. \n  \n‘Summer Grasses’ will be on display from 20 Oct to 5 Nov 2018 at Manzi Art Space\, 14 Phan Huy Ích. \n  \nCommunications Partner:\nHanoi Grapevine https://hanoigrapevine.com/ \n  \nThe show is part of Manzi’s Art Programme supported by the Embassy of Denmark. \n  \n\n  \n‘Cỏ mùa hè’– một trưng bày cá nhân của Bàng Nhất Linh \n  \nKhai mạc: 18h00\, thứ Bảy\, 20 tháng 10 năm 2018\nTrưng bày: 20.10 – 05.11.2018\nManzi Art Space\, 14 Phan Huy Ích\, Ba Đình\, Hà Nội\nVào cửa tự do \n  \nManzi Art Space\, MotPlus và Nguyen Art Foundation hân hạnh giới thiệu trưng bày cá nhân “Cỏ Mùa hè”của nghệ sỹ Bàng Nhất Linh. \n  \n‘Cỏ mùa hè\nLà những gì còn lại\nTừ mộng chiến binh’ – (Basho) \n  \nMột bài thơ viết bằng ánh sáng(*)\, một dự án bị từ bỏ\, những vật thể thoáng nhìn tưởng quen thuộc nhưng đang bị đặt trong một cảnh huống trớ trêu… Những câu chuyện lồng trong câu chuyện… nhưng bao trùm lên tất cả là một không khí u hoài và nhân văn như bài thơ haiku của Basho… \n  \n“Cỏ mùa hè” là dự án mới nhất của Bàng Nhất Linh\, một tác phẩm sắp đặt được thực hiện dưới dạng re-visiting (quay lại) dự án có tên “Anh hùng/Hero” (**) mà Linh đã thực hiện trong thời gian từ 2010-2012. \n  \nĐây là dự án thứ sáu và cũng là trưng bày cá nhân thứ năm của Linh. Tác phẩm sau đó sẽ được tiếp tục trưng bày tại Sài Gòn trong một triển lãm đôi với sự kết hợp giữa Bàng Nhất Linh và nghệ sỹ Đài Loan Wu Chi-Tsung được tổ chức bởi MOTplus. \n  \n\n  \n(**) “Anh hùng/Hero” là một dự án cũ của Bàng Nhất Linh- được lấy cảm hứng từ trận hải chiến Bạch Đằng với phần chính là mô hình của một mảnh thuyền chiến Trung Hoa dài 8\,5m treo lơ lửng trên một hệ cọc gỗ khiến người xem có cảm giác họ đang đứng dưới lòng sông. Tuy nhiên vì nhiều lí do\, dự án bị hủy\, Linh từ bỏ dự án và tác phẩm này không bao giờ được triển lãm. \n  \n‘Cỏ mùa hè’ được bày tại manzi từ 20.10 tới 05.11.2018. \n  \nSự kiện là một phần trong chương trình nghệ thuật của Manzi được thưc hiện với sự hỗ trợ của Đại sứ quán Đan Mạch. \n  \nĐối tác truyền thông:\nHanoi Grapevine https://hanoigrapevine.com/
