DESCRIPTION:Every Wednesday night at JAM is CINÉ CLUB. \nGuest host for May is Pilot Pirx\, an artist\, musician and producer from the Czech Republic. \nOur Theme for May is ‘Czech New Wave Part II’. \nWed\, 3 May – Closely Watched Trains (1966\, Jirí Menzel)\nWed\, 10 May –\nWed\, 17 May – The Joke (1968\, Jaromil Jires)\nWed\, 24 May – Witchhammer (1970\, Otakar Vávra)\nWed\, 31 May – The Firemen’s Ball (1968\, Milos Forman) \nScreening will start at 8 pm. \nTHE JOKE\nBased on Milan Kundera’s novel of the same name\, The Joke tells the story of Ludvík Jahn\, a man expelled from the Czechoslovakian Communist Party for an idle joke to his girlfriend\, and the revenge he later seeks through adultery. The film was produced during the political liberalization of the 1968 Prague Spring and contains many scenes which satirise and criticise the country’s communist leadership.
