DESCRIPTION:PRESS RELEASE\nThe Jim Thompson Art Center presents ‘Chant for Female Corpse’ a video installation created by Araya Rasdjarmreansook. The artist’s work will be presented next to the garden pools at the Jim Thompson House Museum on the evening of July 5\, 2014\, from 7.30 pm until midnight. This event is part of the Galleries’ Night\, La Fete\, a French cultural festival organized by the Embassy of France\, Thailand. Food and drinks will be available at the Jim Thompson Bar.\nAraya Rasdjarmreansook is a highly talented and internationally acclaimed Thai contemporary artist\, who launched her career in the late 1980’s. She is now working and teaching art in Chiang Mai. After losing many members of her family at a young age\, Araya started to create works based on the theme of death and losses. She attempted to establish connections with the dead and to remember her deceased loved ones by creating performances and videos using corpses. Her unusual approach is to blur conventional ideas and the dividing line between the living and the dead. \nIn the video installation ‘Chant for Female Corpse’ (2001)\, the artists presents visual images and sounds of herself praying and pouring ceremonial dedication water over a female corpse. The chanting voice continues as the water level rises to cover the dead body completely. The installation is divided into three display panels. \nThe artist stated that this piece was a prototype for a work that included the reading of poetry to three female corpses. This video work was designed as if the installation was a fine art mural. A special painting-like effect was created by recording the video through a glass vitrine filled with water.\nOther than the special screening of ‘Chant for Female Corpse’\, participants are invited to see ‘Transmission’ the current exhibition at the Jim Thompson Art Center which aims to investigate the sharing of ideas between cultural heritage and contemporary art. A gallery tour with assistant curator Mary Pansanga will commence at 21.30 pm. onwards. \nAll activities are free of charges.\nFor more information please contact the Jim Thompson Art Center 02 612 6741 \nหอศิลป์บ้านจิม ทอมป์สัน ขอเชิญชมผลงานวิดีโออาร์ต ‘Chant for female corpse’ โดย อารยา ราษฎร์จำเริญสุข ณ บริเวณพิพิธภัณฑ์ บ้านไทยจิม ทอมป์สัน ในวันเสาร์ที่ 5 กรกฎาคม 2557 เวลา 9.30-24.00น. กิจกรรมครั้งนี้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของงานท่องราตรีแกลเลอรี่ (Galleries’ Night) เทศกาลวัฒนธรรมฝรั่งเศส จัดโดยสถานทูตฝรั่งเศส ประจำประเทศไทย \nอารยา ราษฎร์จำเริญสุข เป็นศิลปินหญิงแนวหน้าของไทยที่มีชื่อเสียงระดับโลก เธอเริ่มทำงานศิลปะมาตั้งแต่ปลายปี 1980 ปัจจุบันเธอเป็นศิลปินและอาจารย์สอนศิลปะที่เชียงใหม่ อารยาผ่านการสูญเสียคนในครอบครัวที่เธอผูกพันธ์มาตั้งแต่เยาว์วัย จึงทำให้เธอเริ่มทำงานเกี่ยวกับการสูญเสีย ความตาย และ ความพยายามในการสร้างความสัมพันธ์กับคนตาย ด้วยการทำงานศิลปะกับ “ศพ” โดยใช้วิธีแสดงสด และวีดีโอ ผลงานของเธอมักปรากฏร่างของคนตายเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในงานอยู่บ่อยครั้ง เพื่อเป็นการระลึกถึงความสัมพันธ์ของคนในครอบครัวที่เคยมีอยู่และค่อยๆตายจาก เส้นแบ่งระหว่างพื้นที่ของคนเป็นและพื้นที่ของคนตายถูกละลายและไหลรวม ซึ่งขัดแย้งกับความเคยชินของคนส่วนใหญ่ที่มีเส้นแดนระหว่างคนเป็นกับคนตายที่ชัดเจน เส้นแบ่งนี้ยังเน้นย้ำด้วยพิธีกรรมและบทสวดที่เกิดขึ้นเฉพาะกาล \nผลงานวิดีโออาร์ต Chant for female corpse (2001) เธอนำเสนอภาพและเสียง ของตัวเองที่กำลังกรวดน้ำและสวดให้กับร่างไร้วิญญาณของหญิงสาวที่แน่นิ่ง วิดีโอถูกแบ่งเป็นสามจอ พร้อมๆกับระดับของน้ำที่ค่อยๆ เพิ่มขึ้นจนมิดร่างพร้อมกับบทสวดที่ยังคงดำเนินต่อไป ศิลปินกล่าวว่า “งานชิ้นนี้เป็นงานต้นแบบของ ศพผู้หญิงสามคน ทำพร้อมกับอ่านบทกวีสามร่าง ออกแบบมาให้งานวีดีโอ อาร์ต เป็นเหมือนงานจิตรกรรม การถ่ายภาพผ่านตู้กระจกมัวน้ำ ทำให้ภาพดูเหมือนภาพวาด” \nนอกจากผลงานวิดีโออาร์ต Chant for female corpse ที่จะฉายให้ชมเป็นโปรแกรมพิเศษแล้ว ผู้ชมยังสามารถเยี่ยมชมนิทรรศการ TRANSMISSION นิทรรศการล่าสุดของหอศิลป์ บ้านจิม ทอมป์สัน ที่มุ่งสำรวจ จุดเชื่อมต่อระหว่างมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมและศิลปะร่วมสมัย ในค่ำคืนพิเศษนี้ได้อีกด้วย ผู้ชมจะได้พบกับผู้ช่วยภัณฑารักษ์ แมรี่ ปานสง่า จะนำชม ช่วง 21.30 น. \nกิจกรรมในครั้งนี้ไม่เสียค่าใช้จ่ายในการเข้าร่วม\nรายละเอียดเพิ่มเติมกรุณาติดต่อหอศิลป์บ้านจิม ทอมป์สัน 02 612 6741\nEmail: education@jimthompsonhouse.com https://www.jimthompsonartcenter.org
