SUMMARY:CASE Space Revolution - Off-crossed
DESCRIPTION:Everything was going through our eyes every step we walked through life. The physical information both letter and symbol absorbed quickly into the auditory system. We cannot step back sensation does not that exist. \nPichaya Khunnawat is one of the few Thai artists that uses Abstract Graffiti Painting as a medium to observe his surroundings\, reviewing inner feelings\, and to analyze the current state in society. Colors\, lines\, symbols\, traffic signs and letters were recorded through his visual perception and became etched into his memory. He then conveys his feelings through the canvas in a style that adds dimension to the painting and sculpture of abstract art. He created a set of aesthetic codes in shared experiences\, styled both concrete and abstract by using symbols and mixed media art such as colored pencils\, spray paint\, paper\, paste\, and oil stick. After Pichaya stopped showing his artwork and tried to pursue other interests\, he collected his thoughts and and once again further developed his style of painting. \nToday the fusion of impression in Graffiti Arts and rebellious nature of graffiti art are expressions by using techniques such as scratching\, spraying\, crossing\, or overlaying on canvas including the use of letters and words as seen in everyday life. The transmission process of sign and visual elements which the artist studied and experimented with in the form of abstract art happened from silently questioning himself about livelihood at the present uncertainty of life. \nArtist statement… \nThe day that our dreams come true but we come to realize that those dreams exist through the constructs of society. The process of dreaming can ultimately succeed the process of doing.\nArt can heal in order to restart the process again. The feeling is conveyed as concrete at the appropriate point in time. Occasionally\, it is only gratification and nothing else.\nBeing a human\, animal\, or object collecting mental pictures seemingly like an emotional diary. It’s merely a period that we would not like to think of. We used to linger on thoughts . Nowadays we do not want to pay attention to the concrete specifications and do not want these mental pictures appearing in our drawings anymore.\nColor lines\, textures\, and other new details comply with the need for mental healing. The initiation stage of abstract work\, abstract art is the study of “Abstract Expression” focusing on the expression of the subconscious.\nOFF-CROSSED is about personal mood mixed into each work with mixed-methods. My interest is in graffiti\, patterns of colors\, traffic signs\, and surrounding symbols in everyday life. They represent the manifestations of freedom that everyone has inherited belonging to the physical understanding and definition in the dictionary.\nIn the past\, I loved to cross things out for my gratification or let out my feelings adding consistently with the purpose of deleting\, modifying\, and defusing. In the same manner as crossing the gap for the purpose opportunities are filled with right or wrong.\nOFF-CROSSED in physical aspect means “certainty” but in real life\, the word certainty or absolutely remains a thing that we don’t cross out or conceal to change wrong into right all the time. \nPichaya Khunnawat\nMay 1\, 2018 \nExhibition : Off – Crossed\nArtist : Pichaya Khunnawat\nศิลปิน: พิชยะ คุณวัฒน์\nType : Painting and installation\nVenue: CASE Space Revolution\, 2nd floor of Broccoli Revolution\, the corner of Sukhumvit 49\, Bangkok\, Thailand 10110\nOpening Reception : 7 June 2018 at 6 p.m. onwards\nExhibition : 7 June – 1 July 2018\, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.\n11 AM – 7 PM\nClosed every Monday\n…………………….. \nการดำเนินชีวิตในทุกย่างก้าวทำให้เราผ่านตากับสิ่งต่างๆ ที่อยู่รอบตัว ข้อมูลเชิงกายภาพที่เป็นทั้งสื่อสัญลักษณ์และตัวอักษรซึมซับเข้าสู่โสตประสาทอย่างรวดเร็ว/ล้นเหลือ ในแบบที่ไม่อาจหันหลังให้หรือปิดทวารการรับรู้ได้เลย \nพิชยะ คุณวัฒน์ เป็นหนึ่งในศิลปินไทยจำนวนน้อยคนที่วาดภาพจิตรกรรมแนว Abstract graffiti โดยใช้การสังเกตสิ่งรอบตัวมาทบทวนความรู้สึกของตัวเอง พิจารณาต่อสภาพสังคมในปัจจุบัน สี เส้นสาย รูปทรง สัญลักษณ์ เครื่องหมายจราจร หรือแม้แต่ข้อความ ถูกบันทึกผ่านการรับรู้ทางสายตา ส่งภาพสู่กระบวนการจดจำและกระทบต่อจิตใจ แล้วถ่ายทอดออกมาผ่านความรู้สึกลงบนผืนผ้าใบอีกครั้ง ในรูปแบบที่เพิ่มมิติบนภาษาจิตรกรรมและประติมากรรมของศิลปะนามธรรม โดยสร้างชุดรหัสเชิงสุนทรียะ (aesthetic code) ในรูปแบบของการแบ่งปันประสบการณ์เชิงรูปธรรมและนามธรรม ผ่านการใช้สัญลักษณ์และเทคนิคสื่อผสม เช่น ดินสอ สีสเปรย์ กระดาษ การตัดแปะ และสีน้ำมันแท่ง \nหลังจากที่พิชยะหยุดแสดงผลงานและไปทดลองแนวทางต่างๆ อยู่ช่วงหนึ่งทำให้เขาตกตะกอนความคิดแล้วหันกลับมาพัฒนารูปแบบของการสร้างงานจิตรกรรมอีกครั้ง ผสมผสานกับความชื่นชอบในศิลปะกราฟฟิตี้ ในวันนี้ วิถีขบถของศิลปะกราฟฟิตี้ถูกหยิบยืมมาในการแสดงออกด้วยการใช้เทคนิคสร้างรอยขูดขีด การพ่นสเปรย์ การขีดฆ่า หรือการเขียนทับลงบนผ้าใบ รวมถึงการใช้ตัวอักษรและคำต่างๆ ที่เห็นได้ในชีวิตประจำวัน ซึ่งกระบวนการถ่ายทอดสัญญะ (sign) และทัศนธาตุ (visual elements) ที่ศิลปินศึกษาทดลองในรูปแบบของศิลปะนามธรรม “Abstract Expression” เกิดขึ้นจากการตั้งคำถาม (ในใจ) กับสิ่งที่เป็นอยู่ในปัจจุบัน ถึงความแน่นอนบนความไม่แน่นอนในการใช้ชีวิตในทุกวันนี้ \nถ้อยแถลงจากศิลปิน… \nวันหนึ่งเรารู้ว่าฝันที่ตั้งไว้เป็นจริงตามที่เราวางแผนไว้ เลยหยุดเพื่อเปิดทางหาฝันอื่นๆ แต่แล้วก็ต้องวกกลับมาถามตัวเองใหม่อีกครั้งว่า เราไม่สามารถทนอยู่ได้กับคำว่ามาตรฐานที่ถูกชี้วัด ตีความ และความพยายามหยิบยื่นจนยัดเยียดทางตรงเเละอ้อมจากผู้อื่น \nศิลปะกลับมาเยียวยาเราอีกครั้ง กระบวนการทำงานเริ่มต้นใหม่ ความรู้สึกถูกถ่ายทอดเป็นรูปธรรมต่างๆ นานา ตามที่เราเห็นสมควร บ่อยครั้งที่พิจารณาเเล้วเป็นเเค่ความสะใจ ไม่มีการบอกเล่าอื่นๆ ตัดขาดจากเนื้อหาความคิด องค์ความรู้ \nความเป็นภาพคน สัตว์ สิ่งของที่เปรียบเสมือนสมุดบันทึกอารมณ์ เป็นเพียงช่วงเวลาหนึ่งที่เราไม่อยากกลับไปมองอีก เราเคยอยู่กับสิ่งเหล่านี้มานานในช่วงก่อนที่เราจะหยุด จนถึงตอนนี้เราไม่อยากใส่ใจกับรูปธรรมจำเพาะเเบบนี้ เราไม่อยากให้ภาพเหล่านี้ปรากฎออกมาในภาพวาดของเราอีกต่อไป \nเส้น สี พื้นผิว และรายละเอียดชนิดอื่นที่เพิ่งเกิดขึ้น สอดคล้องกับความต้องการในการเยียวยาสภาพจิต ซึ่งในช่วงเเรกเริ่มของการทำงานจิตรกรรมแบบนามธรรมนี้ คือ การทดลองศึกษาในรูปแบบของศิลปะนามธรรม “Abstract Expression” ที่เน้นในเรื่องของการแสดงออกผ่านกระบวนการของจิตใต้สำนึกเเต่เพียงอย่างเดียว \nOFF-CROSSED คือ การพูดถึงสิ่งที่เป็นส่วนรวมบนพื้นฐานอารมณ์ส่วนตัว ซึ่งภาษาการสื่อสารที่ปรากฏบนชิ้นงานเเต่ละชิ้นนั้นถูกกระทำ ผสมผสานบนวิธีการเเสดงออกที่เคยทำมา ความสนใจในรูปแบบของศิลปะกราฟฟิตี้ และรูปแบบของเส้น สี เครื่องหมายจราจร สิ่งเเวดล้อมที่พบในประจำวันตลอดจนสัญลักษณ์ที่เปรียบเทียบกับการเเสดงออกของสิทธิเสรีภาพที่ทุกคนมีติดตัวมาเเต่กำเนิด ตามความเข้าใจแบบกายภาพ ตามความหมายทางพจนานุกรม \nเเต่ก่อนวิธีการที่เราชอบขีดฆ่าเเค่เพื่อความสะใจ เพื่อการระบายอารมณ์กลับเพิ่มเติมมาด้วยวิธีการที่สอดคล้องกับจุดประสงค์ของการลบ แก้ไข กลบเกลื่อนบางสิ่งบางอย่าง ที่เหมือนกับการกากบาทลงในช่องว่าง เพื่อวัตถุประสงค์ตามเเต่วาระโอกาส หรือการระบายเติมเต็มช่องว่างที่ถูกกำหนดว่าถูกหรือผิด การแปะทับผนึกเพื่อป้องกันการเสียหาย รวมไปถึงการขีดฆ่าเพื่อแก้ไขสิ่งที่ผิดให้ถูกต้อง อีกทั้งกระบวนการอื่นที่ถูกโต้ตอบเฉพาะช่วงเวลานั้น \nOFF-CROSSED ทางกายภาพมีความหมายว่า ‘เเน่นอน’ แต่ความจริงเเล้วโลกที่เราอาศัยอยู่นี้ ยังคงความเเน่นอนอยู่หรือเปล่า หรือยังพอมีความแน่นอนอะไรบ้างที่ยังพอหลงเหลือให้เราไม่ต้องคอยขีดฆ่า กระทำการปกปิด จนบิดเบือนสิ่งที่ผิดให้เป็นถูกอยู่ตลอด \nพิชยะ คุณวัฒน์\n1 พฤษภาคม 2561
