SUMMARY:Attic Studio # Arisara Caroline Faulder
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition spanning landscapes\, seascapes and bodyscapes.\nABOUT THE ARTIST:\nArisara Caroline Faulder is a English-Thai Artist who has been painting since the age of three\, when she was first exposed to the artistic talents of her English grandfather. \nMaking his yearly commute from Sheffield\, England to Bangkok\, Thailand\, in 1963\, Caroline was instantly drawn to his ability to capture so quickly on paper the beauty and colour of her surroundings. \nShe immediately started to mimic her grandfather’s unique style and it was on their family trip to Hua Hin\, a seaside town on the Gulf of Thailand made famous by the royal family’s holiday home\, that she began to connect the shapes\, lines and colours of the world she saw into believable forms. Flowers\, animals\, figures and water were what seeped out of her paintbrush. \nAged ten\, she left Thailand to attend boarding school in England where she was exposed to the History of Art. She initially studied the works of Thomas Gainsborough\, and J.M.W Turner. \nHer university years were spent in Paris. Whilst studying French in the mornings at the Sorbonne\, she took afternoon classes for two years in Fashion Design at the renowned fashion design school\, ESMOD\, and graduated as a Fashion Creator. She went on to study Graphic Art and Photography for three years at ESAG Penninghen\, formerly known as Académie Julian. \nCaroline currently resides in Chon Buri\, Thailand. \nABOUT THE ART:\nCaroline draws a lot of her influences from the impressionist artists\, namely Claude Monet and Arnaud Guillaumin\, and their later derivatives of Matisse (Neo-Impressionism)\, Van Gogh and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (Post-Impressionism)\, André Derain (Fauvism) and Picasso (Cubism). \nHer medium has traditionally been watercolour\, acrylic and oil however more recently she has begun to experiment with mixed media canvasses\, combining collage\, chalk and acrylic to depict her subjects. \nHer work is characterized by bright colours and visible brush strokes\, with her oils and acrylics housing bubbled textures that lift themselves off the canvas. The subjects of her paintings have included European and Asian landscapes\, nature\, nudes\, portraits\, political riots\, musicians and the architectural wonders of Thailand and Cambodia.
