SUMMARY:Asia society Hong Kong center - To see the forest and the trees
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition dates\n06 July 2019 – 08 September 2019 \nIn response to Hong Kong’s devastating loss of trees caused by the tropical cyclone Typhoon Mangkhut in September 2018\, this exhibition explores the role and significance of trees within our environment\, culture\, and history. Inspired by the expression\, “cannot see the forest for the trees\,” which describes when one fails to grasp the big picture by focusing only on a certain aspect\, the exhibition addresses the urgency to preserve the well-being and future of our planet in dire geological decline. Through artworks by Allora & Calzadilla\, Sally Bunker\, South Ho\, Vvzela Kook\, Post Tree Lifestyle\, James Prosek\, Frank Tang\, Natee Utarit\, Haley van Oosten and Trevor Yeung; a music series curated by Charles Kwong and other community education programs\, this exhibition promotes the importance of environmental protection to engineer a sustainable future. \nAbout the gallery\nLocated in the heart of the central business district\, Asia Society Hong Kong Center (ASHK) is situated at the Former Explosives Magazine of the British old Victoria Barracks in Hong Kong\, a site steeped in history\, cultural significance and natural beauty. \nOur Center houses a group of four former British military buildings. Part of the old Victoria Barracks\, originally built during the mid-19th century to the early 20th century. The site was later abandoned in 1980’s until it was granted to ASHK by the government of Hong Kong for adaptive reuse. \nThe site was revitalized with funds generously donated by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and other local and international individuals and organizations. Through the vision of internationally acclaimed architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien and careful conservation\, this transformed site was successfully opened to the public as a cultural\, artistic and intellectual hub in Hong Kong in 2012. \nOpening Hours\nAsia Society Hong Kong Center and Asia Society Store\nTuesday – Sunday: 11 am – 6 pm\nLast Thursday of the month (during exhibition period only unless otherwise stated): 11 am – 8 pm\nClosed on Mondays\nLast admission: 60 minutes before closing \n亞洲協會香港中心及商店\n星期二至星期日：上午11時至下午6時\n每月最後一個星期四：上午11時至晚上8時（如另有安排，開放時間會登於特定展覽頁面）\n逢星期一休館\n最後入場時間：閉館前60分鐘 \nDirections\nBy MTR\nAdmiralty Station\, Exit C1 to Queensway Plaza\nTake the footbridge to Level 2\, Pacific Place\nTake the escalator on the right all the way up to Supreme Court Road\nTurn left and follow the signs to British Council and the British Consulate-General\nAsia Society Hong Kong Center is located right across the street from the British Consulate-General \nBy Bus\nBus stop outside Pacific Place\, Admiralty\nTake the escalator up to Level 3\, Pacific Place\nTake further escalator all the way up to Supreme Court Road\nTurn left and follow the signs to British Council and the British Consulate-General\nAsia Society Hong Kong Center is located right across the street from the British Consulate-General \nBy Taxi\nA drop-off point at Asia Society Hong Kong Center main entrance on Justice Drive; or\nGet off at Conrad Hotel.
